Acute Ethanol Ingestion Increases Platelet Reactivity: 19 Is There A Relationship to Stroke?

چکیده

The effects of ethanol ingestion on ADP-induced platelet aggregation and associated thromboxane formation were studied in the platelet-rich plasma of 10 healthy male volunteers, each serving as his own control. Ethanol caused a transient decrease in threshold concentration of ADP to produce irreversible aggregation. Over a wide range of ADP total platelet aggregation was increased. In the presence of irreversible aggregation, formation of thromboxane B2 rose from 303 ± 56 to 950 ± 212 fmol per 10 7

Biochemical Markers of Acute and Chronic Ethanol Use: Forensic and Clinical Applications

Background: The analysis of ethanol in bio-samples is an important method for determination of acute alcohol use/abuse both in clinical and forensic toxicology. In forensic cases, it is known that micro-organisms involved in the postmortem putrefaction process can produce alcohol and when the body has been traumatized. In clinical setting, post-ingestion time has a critical role for determinati...

The association of platelet count and mean platelet volume (MPV) index with types of stroke

Background: Stroke is known to be the third most prominent cause of death in the developing countries and the most common debilitating neurologic disease. This study aimed to investigate the association of platelet count (PC) and mean platelet volume (MPV) index with various stroke types. Methods: This cross-sectional study was carried out on patients over the age of 18 years who presented wit...

P 149: Effect of Glycoprotein IIb/IIIa Inhibition on Acute Ischemic Stroke Injuries

Ischemic stroke accounts for about 87 percent of all cases. It occurs as a result of an obstruction within a vessel of the brain and sudden loss of blood circulation to the corresponding area resulting in the loss of brain function. It is caused by thrombotic or embolic occlusion of an artery and is more common than hemorrhagic stroke. We know that most of the injuries after an acute ischemic s...

Platelets and acute cerebral infarction.

Stroke is worldwide a leading cause of death and disability. Its etiology is regarded as heterogeneous. Platelets are implicated in its pathophysiology, but our understanding of their specific role is incomplete. Only sparse and conflicting information exists about platelet reactivity and activity in acute stroke. Some scientists take the view that platelets activate in conjunction with acute c...
